When we were renovating Gospenheale Barn we researched alternatives to frosted glass and discovered Jo Downs working in Launceston just 5 miles away. Jo visited us then created three amazing bespoke fused glass windows for our bathrooms and as a ‘borrowed light’. She also made a dozen beautiful ‘mini tiles’, each one individual and unique for the showers.
Many of our guests have asked us about the origin of the glass and subsequently visited Jo’s studio and shop to view the workshop and purchase home hand made gifts for their friends and family. Our son spent six months working there to fund his gap year travels and we always thought he was very fortunate to be paid to make such lovely items.
Just before Christmas Bridget took the opportunity of a ‘Fusing For Fun’ Saturday workshop and fulfilled a long held ambition to create some pieces of fused glass for herself. Vicky was very patient as she taught the small group how to cut and break the coloured glass and layer it ready for putting in the kiln. These photos show a little of the process and the finished results.
We are full of admiration of the creative talent of Jo and her team. If you love colours and glass then you will love Jo Downs Glass designs too.
